Bootlegger, Kenilworth

I love Bootlegger. They have great food and great decor. The decor does a good job of capturing the essence of a coffee shop/restaurant.

Another thing of note is that they are dog friendly, I don’t know if they’d let you in with a Labrador but they most certainly accept a Yorkie.

Brownie Milkshake & White Wine and 750ml Black Label

The milkshake was great. It was thick, homemade and even had loads of little chunks of brownie. It tasted exactly as advertised and wasn’t made of any store-bought mixtures that Capetonian restaurants seem to have a fondness for.

Bootlegger Beer and Wine.jpg

I’ve never seen that big of a bottle of beer so if you’re a fan of Black Label then I suppose this is a drink for you.

The wine was pretty average for an average price, so nothing to review there.

They had a fair amount of alcohol for sale considering they’r a coffee company which is a good thing as their restaurant is just as good, if not better, than their coffee.

Cheddarmelt Burger

This burger was both good and bad. The mushroom sauce was excellent, the patty was cooked perfectly, and the chips were great but there was less sauce than I expected. I know for a fact that there used to be more sauce on the burger, so much that it fell off the burger, but either this was a fluke, someone complained about too much sauce or they’ve begun to use less sauce to maximize profits which would be disappointing to say the least.

No-Bun Chicken Burger

They did a very good job on presentation. Even though it is a burger it just looks like a mound of deliciousness ready to be eaten. It tasted great and they didn’t go over the top with the presentation or ingredients. It just was what it was. The chicken was cooked well and, like all the other meat, is from a good, free range, source. The sweet potato fries were delicious. They looked similar to regular chips and had a similar consistency which I appreciate as that means that it’s not the usual, soggy, chip.

Overall, a relaxing experience full of great food that I want to return to ASAP.
